Maybe you already understand this, but if you are searching for strains,
you should also understand the concept of a phenotype in relation to
seeds and clones.
Essentially, all seeds yield genetically different plants. The real question
is how different are they? This depends on many factors, but it is mostly
related to the breeding program and techniques used to generate the
parents. Some strains of seed from some breeders will be very, very
much alike when sprouted. Others will result in wildly different
plants. Others will be somewhere in between.
This is why it is very important to understand what seeds you are
getting (assuming seeds).
Clones are genetically identical but could be grown to display a different
phenotype because of environment. Clones are your best shot at
uniformity by far.
Many people who cannot get clones, buy seeds, grow them out, and
set aside a mother plant of each aside in vegetative growth. Then,
when all the original sprouts are fully flowered, the mother for the
next generation is the one that performed the best for the environment,
etc. Be sure to label properly.
