What is everyone using to start clones for soil grow?Rockwool cubes/rapid rooters/oais cubes/perlite vermiculite mix/sand ?I am getting ready to start some cuttings and have been thinking about trying rapid rooters this time I have used all of the above all work some better than others.Whats your favorite method and why?

I use rockwool. I believe they are 1.5"x1.5", might be 2x2

I use a plastic tray and a slightly vented clear dome.

I have a small rock amphibian heater and a spray bottle.

I make my cuts and stack the cuttings.

cut at a long angle and strip about 1" of exterior "bark" off the bottom.

Dip in cloning solution and slip them into the new holes I make in the pre-soaked RW using either a nail or a small drill bit.

place heater on surface, place dry washcloth/small towel on heater, put tray with clones on towel making sure to get RW on top of the heater.

I spray the inside of the hood with my water, making sure the drops arent big enough to drip. I make sure the dome is moist all the time in addition to spraying the rockwool directly (not the leaves at all) with 4-7 sprays per cube, twice daily. morning before leaving, and afternoon when i get home.

It never fails that in 7 days I am seeing nice thick roots protruding all over.

**edited to add**
why? because this is the only successful way Ive been able to clone and it only takes a week. I made my own bubbler and had rot/mold issues.

I tried first with no heater using rw, rooting took 2 weeks plus.
I made my own bubbler to try for a faster clone and ended up with clone rot and mold issues. (heat and ventilation related)
I then got a dome and a heater and havent looked back since.

I've tried a similar method with poor results. After getting my daisy cloner I went from progagtion being the worst part of my game to it being the best.

The rockwool will work though, take twice as many as you need, if you're like me.

oasis cubes
I like oasis. But watch out where you get it- that it hasn't been sitting too long, is dirty, broken, touched; some places do not store them in a sanitary manner. Check out your slab with a critical eye before you use it!

It's easy to control the saturation. When you soak it, and lift it sideways in its tray, it easily drains, and you can leave in the perfect amount of water (unlike rockwool which tends to hold it to a certain point).

I don't use the pre-punched hole to stick. But stick off to the side, the foam is soft but very solid, able to hold you cut up and stable. I find that the medium provides the perfect amount of air. The blocks allow for roots to grow out if they get long enough, instead of being confined to an individual rapid rooter plug for example.

It stays very clean, very hard for bugs to get in, mold to grow, algae, etc. I have never had these in/on oasis.

If you go with rooters, I suggest botanicare rooters over rapid rooter brand. They are much more soft & spongy, and also longer!

I've also heard of people rooting straight in soil, but heard that it takes 3 weeks to root! Either way I think all mediums should work fine in soil.

I have tried all sorts of cloning mediums, but have had the best sucess using 1 gal coarse perlite and 2 cups of worm casting in 4oz plastic cups[holes in bottom]..put in grow flat with about 1/4" of water with a small dose of 'Superthrive'.. last batch of cutting -17/24 have rooted in 7 days so far..
