DWC method
I'm about to build, and maintain a 4ft x 4ft x 6.5ft grow box, but I'm looking to use a DWC method (Deep-Water Culture) where you grow hydroponically and the roots are kept in a large container dangling, in a 100% humid enviroment w/ a splash or drip line to provide nutrients . . .

Has anyone ever tried this method before? It's easily explained in the marijuana horticulture book by jorge cervantes; It looks to be an easy setup and also cost-effective.

I want to use florescent lighting due to costs then switch over to the red lighting during flowering, can anyone suggest brands they've used ?

Also, any suggestions on exhaust work in a small area? Since I'm going to be creating this box myself, i've gone to rugged designs for expense needs. Simply said, a combination in multiple locations of large computer fans for the ventilation (due to room restrictions)

like this:

figure 1a shows a standard design, alternating the face of the fan causes the flow of the air, and if I push / pull with probably 2 rows of 3 large fans on two alternating sides connected to an SLA battery for constant power w/o using my elec. bill could that provide sufficient ventilation (assuming the in side was the fresh air side of course)

I'm looking to pinch where I can, and try to grow as bountiful as possible, expecting probably 1/2lb - 1lb for the box under prime conditions without a $150 electric bill. (4 plants)

Just use the compact flourescence and when they get bigger use one of those things that makes 2 bulb sockets out of 1 and add more bulbs. Then get a 400 to 600 watt HPS light set up.

A 400 hps will only cost about $20 -$25 a month to run, you might not even notice it. You should be able to grow 4 to 6 pretty easy under that.

Flouros work okay in veg and you can use them in bloom, but less yeild.

As far as DWC it's sort of un0natural, and it causes fast growth, but you do get better tasting weed if you water from the top.

100% humidity? You may be prone to powdery mildew. I know of a $5 sulfur burner you can make, if you get the pm.

Originally found this in High Times:

Buy a light socket (from any hardware store), the kind you would affix to your ceiling, should have a chain to pull it on and off, and take a 100 watt bulb. Buy a regular cord that plugs into an outlet on one end & connect it to the light. Ask the electrician at the store if you need help on how to wire it, there should only be 2 wires and 2 places to hook them up to.

You'll also need 2 cans. One should be larger and be able to fit over the bulb. Cut both ends off the larger one and place it over the bulb. The smaller one, only cut one side off, and place it on top of the bulb, within the larger can. You may need to make it shorter so it doesn't fall out.

You can get yellow sulfur pellets at the hydro store. Put the pellets in the smaller can, like a cup, place it in the room and turn the light on. It should start to burn the sulfur, if it doesn't there may be too much pellets in it.
