Medical pot activists haze the traitors who ratted out Ed Rosenthal
By Eliza Strickland
Published: June 6, 2007
News source: SF Weekly http://www.sfweekly.com/2007-06-06/news/stop-snitching/

Our local medical marijuana activists have been engaging in some heavy peer pressure recently. This spring, as the second federal trial against pot guru Ed Rosenthal approached, the activists went on a bullying campaign to keep witnesses from testifying against Rosenthal by whatever means necessary.

Subject(s): Strickland on angry stoners The often farcical trial ended last week, with convictions on several charges of violating federal drug laws (although under state law his medical marijuana operation was entirely legal). Rosenthal faces no punishment beyond the one day of jail time he served after his first conviction in 2003. But activists still believed that the trial had high stakes and intimidated witnesses.

Two who planned to cooperate with the government started feeling the heat in April. Angry and sometimes vicious e-mails circulated regarding Rick Watts and Bob Martin, who were both involved with several cannabis clubs back when Rosenthal was busted. When Watts organized a Cannabis Freedom Day celebration, the activist group Axis of Love declared a boycott. A press release from the group's executive director, Shona Gochenaur, castigated those testifiying against Rosenthal as traitors to the medical marijuana community, cooperating with the feds "in order to save their own hides."

Apparently, it was enough to convince Watts. He didn't appear in court on the scheduled day, and the judge had to send the cops to bring him in. When he took the stand as a hostile witness, he was no help to the prosecution. He insisted that he had merely been a carpenter at the cannabis clubs in question, and was too busy pounding nails to notice what was being grown and sold there.

Bob Martin, however, was another story — he testified willingly in 2003, and did so again last week. He and Rosenthal have an antagonistic history involving one lawsuit, and Rosenthal once threw Martin out of a NORML conference, "because he was a snitch," says Rosenthal.

Martin, the owner of two active cannabis clubs, has become the green devil to many activists. Lynnette Shaw, who runs the Marin Alliance for Medical Marijuana, says that Martin "sold everybody out for a comfortable little place selling pot." She notes that the federal government is clearly aware of Martin's two businesses, but allows them to operate with impunity.

We tried to reach Martin for comment, but no one answered the phone at either of his clubs. So we'll blithely assume that he's either hiding from the wrath of his fellow potheads, or sharing a bowl with the feds.

resinous will become famous soon enough
I haven't seen too much about this on line but it's been gnawing at me for a couple weeks. When I read Bob Martin's testimony he was asked if he ever bought clones from Ed Rosenthal. He didn't say yes or no he said 'thousands'.

There's bad blood between Ed and Bob, make no mistake. When Ed was selling clones Bob got at least a tray of mite infected babies. One of the witnesses who refused to testify who's job it was to hose off the clones each morning probably got over burdened, when mites strike all hell breaks lose. It wasn't a big secret Ed's clones had mites, you can't really keep that secret. So there was probably a lawsuit over payments for the clones. More bad blood.

Now there's the fact anyone can be stricken with mites, in fact it's bound to happen at some point. Ancient history at this point. There is also a discussion of how damaging Bob's testimony was. He was the only witness that mentioned the clones were for medical marijuana patients.

The witnesses who didn't testify are far and away the only champions of the drama that unfolded at Ed's trial. Six or eight of them didn't testify. Jeff Jones walks away with the 'Teflon Don' award. The judge was so compelled to excuse Jeff from testifying. Jeff has his own dramas to tell regarding the DEA, and none of them involve squealing. The others were found in contempt of court. That means they didn't like being in court, does anybody? Probably the prosecutor, he loves court so much he's retaining the rights to calling all six or eight or however many back to court. By now you're thinking that would be pointless, but so was Ed's whole re-trial.

So what about Bob the rat faced boy? No, no, no, no we can't have him at NORML meetings, or can we? From what I hear, and I hear pretty good, is that NORML is open to all members.

So all survivors were offered the immunity idol for their testimony, the one that took it ends up on snake infested outcast island. Lots of luck.

Those who refused are heroes. If we stick together, we win. If we roll, we are all done.

Remember the guy who called the DEA for lunch to talk about "bad clubs"? He got shut down.

Don't snitch people.

I don't know what clubs are owned by that Martin guy, but I did see this at axis of love, but no url for the site

============

Axis of Love SF Announces the Establishment of a Patient Website to Rate Medical Cannabis Dispensaries in San Francisco

In a meeting last week in a near unanimous vote (one nay vote) Axis of Love SF voted to establish a website to rate Medical Cannabis Dispensaries in San Francisco. To be clear we asked Shona to step out as Naomi put the proposal on the table and D. C. seconded the vote. We did not want a conflict of interest to arise from an owner operator who might have interests in the advertising. Shona , of course did step out and had nothing to do with either this vote or its outcome. This vote is a response from Naomi who has witnessed the Department of Health being used as an advertising ground for dispensaries against ethical rules, despite the objections of many ethical owners who tried to talk to the party in question. She brought it to her follow patients and we decided a course of action.

"We are always wanting to improve patient services and give patient's a voice" said Denise, a longtime member "This is a direct way to do it"

The website will have categories such as:
Ø access to strains (organic, Mexican, kush etc)
Ø knowledge of specialized illnesses such as cancer and HIV,
Ø speaking different languages,
Ø accessibility,
Ø social services and activities,
Ø compassion programs,
Ø customer services,
Ø pricing,
Ø hours,
Ø anti-discrimination practices,
Ø knowledge of strains,
Ø accessibility to public transportation,
Ø on site vaporization,
Ø whether the delivery service has people who had background checks or not,
Ø baked goods (and how good they are!)
Ø vegan baked goods, sugar free baked goods
Ø pills, salves, tinctures
Ø clones
Ø hemp bags
Ø and other issues such as if the business are socially responsible.
Ø Paraphernalia and vaporizers
Ø Lastly-if owners have accepted Federal Immunity or Given Federal Testimony

In capitalism the market will come to bear and people will support the businesses which best reflect their needs and values. It is our goal to help new customers be able to learn from older customers which business we trust and value.

We will put flyers up with the website information and put flyers up at dispensaries and around town in order to let people know about the website information in order to participate. Libraries around town have free web access.

This website will focus on San Francisco alone. And it will be run for patients by patients. We are not in it to increase competition or profit maximization. We are in it to help people get what they need and protect patient rights. No owner operator will have a hand in directing it. But we will tell you right now our bias is towards compassionate dispensaries and we will list in RED any club that has accepted Federal Immunity. Beyond that we will not weight it in one direction or another.
